Getting Here - Travel to/from Phuket

By Train

There are no trains running directly to Phuket from Bangkok. However you can travel to Surat Thani trainstation and then continue the last bit by bus. The train journey takes about 12 hours from Bangkok with another 4 hours from Surat Thani to Phuket by bus. Most tour companies in Bangkok can issue tickets which include the bus transfer from Surat Thani. Trains have different classes which range in price. The 2nd class sleeper trains (fan or a/c) are a popular choice as you get a table and a sofa that turns into a fairly spacious bunk bed at night. Lower level bunks are slightly larger and more comfortable to sleep in. For more privacy you can book a private first class two-bed cabin.

By Bus

Buses run virtually every hour between Phuket's bus terminal and Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal, with the first bus leaving at 6.00 and the last at 19.30. The journey takes about 14 hours. The 24 seat air-con buses with more leg room are the most comfortable. It’s probably a good idea to bring a sweater or a jacket as it can get chilly when the air-con is on. Phuket also has good bus connections to practically everywhere in the south, and major destinations in the rest of Thailand.

By Air

There are 7 airlines operating from Phuket International Airport, offering flights to both domestic and international destinations. Flight schedules are updated frequently but most travel agencies will have the most recent schedule. You can also call directly to the airline or check out their website.
